Pharmacological action
Prefolic is a source of folic acid (vitamin B9) and an active catalyst for biochemical processes in the body.
The product:

Active ingredient
Calcium mefolinate (N5-methyltetrahydrofolate) is a biologically active form of folic acid, easily absorbed by the body and requiring no additional metabolic conversion.
Together with vitamin B12, it participates in:
• homocysteine detoxification;

• thymine and purine synthesis;
• immune and hematopoietic system support.
Indications for use
Prefolic is used:
• folate deficiency anemia;
• macrocytic hyperchromic anemia;
• anemia and leukopenia caused by drugs and ionizing radiation;
• Chronic gastroenteritis, sprue, and intestinal tuberculosis;
• Antidote therapy to reduce the toxic effects of methotrexate and aminopterin;
• As part of combination therapy for long-term medication use;
• In sports medicine – for recovery after exercise and as part of the "Milan cocktail."
Use in sports medicine
Prefolic is one of the components of the "Milan cocktail," which aims to activate enzymatic processes and restore the body.
The cocktail also includes:
Epargresiovit, Inotin, Ezafosfin, and TAD 600.
The drugs are administered one ampoule at a time, starting with Ezafosfin, with the remaining components gradually added.
Dosage and Administration
The dosage, regimen, and duration of therapy are determined by a physician.
Standard dosage:
• 15 mg per day, every other day;
• The course is continued until remission is achieved and folic acid deficiency is eliminated;
• The course duration is usually 7-10 days, with a break of up to 10 days.
Intravenous administration:
• Slow administration is recommended;
• The hematological peak is observed 2-3 hours after administration.
Antidote therapy:
• In case of methotrexate or aminopterin overdose, higher doses are possible:
• 15 mg orally every 6-8 hours for several days;
• or 50-100 mg intravenously at intervals of 3-8 hours.

Side effects
In rare cases, the following are possible:
• allergic reactions;
• increased body temperature;
• tachycardia;
• decreased blood pressure;
• anaphylactic shock.

Drug Interactions
For pernicious anemia, Prefolic is used only in combination with cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12).
