Description of the drug

Xyzal® is a modern antihistamine for systemic use, intended for the symptomatic treatment of allergic diseases. The drug contains levocetirizine, the active R-enantiomer of cetirizine with high affinity for H₁-histamine receptors.
Due to its selective action, Xyzal® effectively reduces the manifestations of allergies, with virtually no effect on the central nervous system.

Mechanism of action

Levocetirizine blocks H₁-histamine receptors, inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators, reduces vascular permeability and eosinophil migration.
It has antipruritic, anti-inflammatory and antiexudative effects, almost does not show anticholinergic effects.

Indications for use:

• seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis;
• chronic urticaria.

Advantages:

• rapid onset of action (in most patients - within 0.5-1 hour);
• long-lasting antihistamine effect;
• high selectivity for H₁-receptors;
• convenient administration - 1 time per day;
• minimal effect on cognitive functions.

Method of administration and dosage:

Take orally, regardless of meals, with water.

  • Adults and children from 6 years of age:
    5 mg (1 tablet) 1 time per day.

Dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with impaired renal function.

The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor depending on the course of the disease.

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine or piperazine derivatives;
• severe renal failure (CC < 10 ml/min);
• pregnancy and breastfeeding;
• age up to 6 years (for tablet form).

Precautions

Use with caution in patients with chronic renal failure and the elderly.
It is recommended to refrain from drinking alcohol during treatment.

Storage conditions

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, in a dry place, out of the reach of children.
